Working hard for Youth Employment

Last June I was delighted to host a Youth Action Forum in the Easterbooke Hall, which gave young people from the region the chance to put their views on youth employment to ministers and decision makers.

During the event, Minister for Youth Employment Angela Constance formally opened a £2.5 million fund for charities and social enterprises to help young people find employment.

The Scottish government have also guaranteed all 16-19 year olds the offer of a place in education or training through Opportunities for All.

A Parliamentary question revealed that Modern Apprenticeships have more than doubled since 2007; in 2011/12 960 young people in Dumfries and Galloway were in Modern Apprenticeships compared to just 415 in 2006/7.
