Rocketing prices make bare necessities a luxury

THE cost of living is rising so much that many of us can't afford a holiday and things will get even worse.

ONE in three of us have stopped taking annual holidays.

The cost of living means a week in Majorca might as well be a month in Monte Carlo – an impossible fantasy.

Necessity is the new luxury as the price of food and fuel rockets. The average family shells out £200 a month more for household bills than five years ago.

The figures came from BACS, the operators behind Direct Debit in the UK, but they only tell half the story.
