Motion S4M-05167

That the Parliament applauds the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) for what it sees as its presence in and commitment to Dumfries and Galloway;

believes that UWS is a key partner on the Crichton campus and continues to make a significant contribution to the campus's overall management and services; recognises what it believes to be the expertise of the staff; congratulates it on the quality of its provision and facilities, both locally and with national training contracts, in the areas of nursing, dementia care, social work, childhood studies, computing, business and enterprise; believes that the recent investment in its upgraded skills ward for nursing students and the Domus room for dementia care, as well as the developments in the provision of its new BA course in applied enterprise, strengthens both the quality and breadth of provision in Dumfries and Galloway and continues to offer great opportunities to people from the area; commends the success of UWS in winning and maintaining the contract to deliver the Dementia Champions national training programme; applauds its annual enterprise challenge for secondary schools, and considers that it has strong working relationships with a wide range of public, private and voluntary service organisations that demonstrate a real desire to develop and strengthen partnerships to further enhance its work in the area.
