Congratulations to Dumfries and Galloway's Young Scot Award Nominees

That the Parliament congratulates Michael Gowan, 21, from Dumfries and Claire Hastings, 25, from Holywood on being shortlisted for the Young Scot Awards 2015;

understands that Michael is a finalist in the community section; recognises that Michael volunteers as a youth leader and project treasurer, helping with activities four nights a week at Summerhill Community Centre as well as taking up positions as a management trustee at the centre and a member of the LGBT National Youth Council; further understands that Claire, who won BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician for 2015, is a finalist in the arts category; further recognises that Claire has taught and mentored younger pupils through her school’s traditional music initiative, spent many evenings entertaining at community events and care homes for older people on a voluntary basis, has been accepted onto what it considers the prestigious Live Music Now Festival and is involved with the Time for Traditional Tunes project; considers that the awards honour the achievements of remarkable young people across 11 different categories, including community, enterprise, sport and the arts, and wishes both Michael and Claire good luck at the awards ceremony on April 30 at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh.
