In 2012 I lobbied hard in support of the campaign to upgrade the dangerous stretch of the A75 between Hardgrove and Kinmount.
I was very pleased that, in spite of massive cuts to their ca pital budget from Westminster, the Scottish Government listened to the concerns of people across the region and found the money to deliver this vital upgrade. In February it was announced that McLaughlin and Harvey Ltd will deliver the project, which is expected to begin in the next few months, and be completed in 2014. The upgrade will deliver a new 3.6km stretch providing overtaking facilities in both directions.
This should massively improve safety on this stretch of the road, where too many accidents have happened in the past. On top of this, the upgrade will also enhance journey times and help to boost the local economy. I ha ve written to McLaughlin and Harvey who have assured me local sub-contractors and workers will be used to deliver the project
