South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has praised the fantastic work of the volunteer team at Mossburn Community Farm near Hightae.
Her comments come following a visit during Volunteer Week, where she learned about the valuable work that the farm does in the community.
Commenting, the SNP MSP said:
“I was very impressed with the work done at Mossburn by Juanita and her hard working team. Several, including Juanita herself, are full time volunteers and we owe them so much for their efforts.
“Mossburn is much more than an animal sanctuary. They provide meaning full and therapeutic work for people who are vulnerable – it is very clear to me having been there what a difference helping out at the farm can make. The horses in particular are used in an impressive programme of equine assisted psychotherapy, which can make breakthroughs where more traditional methods have failed.
“The animals themselves are delightful and exceptionally well looked after. Some of the volunteers start at 7am which shows a great deal of commitment. The sanctuary also does a great deal of work with local schools, which as been educational as well as pleasurable for the pupils.”
