Speaking today at the official opening of the Annandale timber haulage route, Joan McAlpine MSP welcomed the new purpose built road.
Commenting, the SNP MSP said:
“The new timber haulage route will allow wood to be taken from the Ae Forest and Annandale estates onto the main A701 just south of Beattock.
“This will keep these large lorries away from small rural roads, which are simply not suitable for such vehicles.
“Annandale Estates, Forestry Commission Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway Council have worked hard over the past three years to deliver this practical, sustainable solution for timber transport in the area.”
“I am pleased that the Environment Minister is here today to open the route, so he can see for himself how the £750,000 Scottish government grant will improve infrastructure in the area, cut carbon emissions and open up new areas of hill land for afforestation.”
