Joan Welcomes Investment in Dumfries By-Pass

SNP MSP for the south of Scotland Joan McAlpine has welcomed the news that Transport Scotland will be investing in major repairs to the Dumfries by-pass this spring.

The repairs are part of a £10 million extra investment in roads up and down the country, with new funds allocated as part of the 2013/2014 budget.  Transport Scotland’s operating companies are fitting the extra work into their current maintenance programmes for the trunk road network.

Commenting, Ms McAlpine said:

“Road surface issues are something that drivers across Dumfries and Galloway feel very strongly about, even more so after the harsh winters we’ve had in recent years, leading to damage across the road network.

“This extra investment for the by-pass will go some way to addressing these issues.  It is great that Transport Scotland has responded to driver’s concerns by using this money where it is required most.”

She added:

“Transport Scotland has invested over £2.5 billion on Scotland’s roads and motorways since 2007, including £36.73 in Dumfries and Galloway on the A77 Symington to Bogend Toll Improvements, the A75 Dunragit Bypass and the A75 Hardgrove Improvement schemes.

“In 2013/14 they are investing over £700m which will ensure they continue to deliver an extensive maintenance and improvement programme with road safety a key priority.”
