Joan Welcomes Cash Back Boost for D&G Multicultural Centre

Scotland’s Justice Minister has praised a plan for young people’s facilities at Dumfries and Galloway multi- cultural centre.

And Kenny MacAskill told the Scottish Parliament he hoped to come and visit the centre at some point in the future.

The chill-out area to give youngsters their own space, at the building in Dumfries recently received a cash back for communities grant of £1’999.

Cash back for communities was introduced by the SNP government to transfer money confiscated from criminals to projects which benefit young people.

MSP Joan McAlpine invited Mr MacAskill to visit the Dumfries project during Justice Minister’s question time at the Scottish Parliament this week.

She said: “Dumfries and Galloway has benefitted enormously from cash back for communities with top class facilities such as the Annan Athletic 3G pitch which Mr MacAskill officially opened.

“The chill out area comes from the small grants scheme but will make a big difference by allowing young people to socialise and relax in their own space.”
