Blinkered Labour came up short on wage pledge

LIVING wage, minimum wage and zero hours. The language of low pay gets complicated at times.

The reality is simple. If you’re skint, you’re skint.

But it does help to understand WHY low pay is getting worse.

Nicola Sturgeon, the incoming First Minister of Scotland, wants Scotland to be able to set the national minimum wage. So do many anti-poverty and family charities.

At the moment, only Westminster can change the minimum wage.

That’s why it is so awful – £6.50 per hour, less for young people and less again for apprentices.

Shamefully, both Labour and Tory governments at Westminster have allowed it to fall behind inflation – it would be £7.48 by now if it has risen along with prices...
