Joan Welcomes Ofcom Consultation on South of Scotland TV

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has welcomed Ofcom proposals to improve ITV services in the Border TV area.

Following her Parliamentary debate on South of Scotland TV, Ms McAlpine met with ITV bosses to discuss the inadequate coverage of news and current affairs in the region.

The SNP MSP challenged ITV to come up with a better deal for the south of Scotland.

Commenting, Ms McAlpine said:

“I am very pleased that ITV have listened to my calls for improved programming in the south of Scotland.

“One of the options on the consultation is restoring the old Border news service and placing an obligation to show 90 minutes of other regional programmes every week.  The suggestion that these could be bought from STV is one I discussed with ITV at my meeting and one that I support strongly.

“From the consultation launched by Ofcom today it seems that ITV have listened our concerns.”

The consultation closes on the 2nd of May and can be found here:  http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/c3-c5-obligations/
